Who We Are
The Cirdan Sailing Trust is a charity that has been operating for over 40 years specialising in
enabling groups of young people and individuals, particularly those who are disadvantaged in
some way, to experience the challenge and adventure of life at sea on large sailing vessels.
We have a fleet of three vessels; Queen Galadriel, a 32m 1937 Baltic Trader, Faramir a 22m
Bermudian Ketch and Duet a 20m classic yawl from 1912.

The Role
The Cirdan Sailing Trust is recruiting a Skipper to work primarily on our vessel Duet working
directly with disadvantaged young people from across the UK providing them with life changing
experiences.
The Skipper is expected to lead the delivery of voyages and ensure the smooth operation of the
vessel.
The Skipper will take an active role in helping to ensure that the fleet is maintained to the
highest standards including working on the annual refit programme and routine maintenance
throughout the season.

The ideal candidate will meet the following requirements
• Hold a Commercially Endorsed RYA Yachtmaster Offshore qualification
• Hold a ENG1 Medical Certificate
• Has experience of sailing large sailing vessels.
• Be flexible as the role involves working in various locations around the UK.
• Have an empathy with young people and the wide range of challenges that they face.
• Undertake an enhanced DBS check.
• Have a desire to develop junior members of crew and volunteers

As it is important for us to find the right person for this vital role within our charity we are keen to
hear from candidates that may not have experience in all of the above areas but have the desire
to learn and have more experience in other areas. For example we would be interested to hear
from you if you are an experienced First Mate looking to take the next step in your career.

In Return
• 3 weeks on – 1 week off rota
• Travel contribution for scheduled leave periods during the sailing season
• Access to Wellbeing support for all staff
• Pension Scheme
