Offshore Sailing Training Relief Crew
Contract: Casual Contract – contracts issued for individual periods at sea – during our sailing season: March – November.
Location: Offshore – sailing from various locations throughout the UK – base port Gosport.

Are you looking to support sail training and passionate about youth development? If so, the Marine Society and Sea Cadets (MSSC) are looking for sessional workers to support our offshore sailing programme!
The MSSC is the leading maritime charity for youth development and lifelong learning. We are a vibrant and growing charity inspiring young people to achieve their potential through challenge and nautical adventure. The MSSC operate five offshore vessels, ranging from a 32m long Square-Rigged Brig, two 20m long power vessels and two 42’ long yachts.
We are currently looking for occasional reliefs to cover key positions within our offshore fleet between March to November. These positions cover a range of roles from Skippers, Mates to Cooks and Engineers.
Requirements
· Experience of youth development or working with young people.
· Appropriate qualifications or experience for the particular role.
· Ability to gain clear Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) or equivalent, check.
· Right to work in the UK.
· Fit for sea environments (own or ability to gain an ENG1 or ML5 medical certificate).
Roles
There are multiple positions required within the offshore fleet. These range from:
· Skipper / Master / Commanding Officer – Minimum of Yachtmaster Offshore Power or Sail (other qualifications and commercial endorsements (CE) are required).
· Second in Command – Minimum of Yachtmaster Offshore (CE) Power or Sail + others specific needs.
· Engineers – Previous related engineering experience at sea or on shore, ideally an AEC qualification.
· Coxswain – MCA recognised First Aid Certificate.
· Chef – Prior catering experience with ability to cook meals from between 18-32 people. First Aid Certificate & Food Hygiene.
· Bosun – Prior rigging experience, confidence when operating at height, sea-going sail training experience.
· Yacht Mate – Minimum of Day Skipper, RYA Power level 2, Food Hygiene Cert.
Initial week for a position will be as a trial and unpaid. All subsequent weeks in a particular position will be paid.
