Deputy Safeguarding Officer (Volunteer) – Ocean Youth Trust South

Ocean Youth Trust South – Deputy Safeguarding Officer (Volunteer)

Ocean Youth Trust South has a very experienced volunteer Safeguarding Officer who sits on our Board of Trustees. We are currently looking to replace a Deputy Safeguarding Officer who has stepped aside due to the arrival of a new baby, but who used to provide cover when the Safeguarding Officer was busy or on holiday.

We are looking for someone with a strong background in safeguarding young people and vulnerable adults, ideally with an understanding of the sail training environment. They would be expected to be on call as part of our Safeguarding team, noting that calls may come at night or at weekends.

They must hold an Enhanced DBS clearance and Child barred list check, have completed level 3 Safeguarding training in last 3 years, and have knowledge of Safeguarding legislation.

They should be able to advise a skipper on safeguarding issues and actions to be taken; understand limits of investigations and where we have to stop and wait for external investigations; .be able to keep detailed records and write reports; and be able to liaise with members of the OYT South team as well as external organisations including voyage clients, local authorities, police, school DSLs etc.

Email [email protected] to arrange an informal chat with the Safeguarding Officer about the role.
