Discovery Sailing Project – Part Time Bosun, Universal Marina

The Discovery Sailing Project, which is part of the Scout Association, is a Sail Training Charity. 

We enable young people from all walks of life to experience and benefit from Offshore Sailing. 

The Project  operates three yachts from their base at Universal Marina, on the River Hamble:

Colvic Clipper 60 – ‘Thermopylae Clipper’ 60ft

Seastream  International 445 – ‘Discovery DSP’ 43 ft

Robertson 34 – ‘Alexander Fairey’ 34 ft

We are now looking to recruit an enthusiastic person with a knowledge of boats and their maintenance to join our team as our Bosun, working part time, around circa 2 days per week during the season and weekend work during the winter months when the yachts are in refit.

This is an exciting, engaging and fulfilling role where a pride can be taken in ensuring our vessels are maintained in good condition and ready for sea.

The ideal candidate will have a skill set to include:

  • Good at working with and organising people from all walks of life
  • Good at explaining / demonstrating how to do practical tasks
  • Experienced in maintaining yachts and their systems
  • Able to work to deadlines and budgets

Hours of working are flexible to the mutual benefit of the Bosun and the Sailing Project

It is anticipated that the Bosun will work as a contractor at a rate of £20 per hour.
