The Island Trust are seeking a full-time Skipper for their traditionally rigged topsail schooner Johanna Lucretia, to join their team of sea and land-based staff who are all committed to the charity’s ethos that the benefits of sailing should be accessible to all.
Johanna Lucretia was built in 1945 at the Rhoose shipyard in Ghent, Belgium as a fishing vessel, although she was never used for this purpose and laid as a completed hull and deck for several years before being sold in 1952. She was then converted and completed in 1954 for recreational use. After many owners she was bought by The Island Trust in 2018.
‘The Island Trust provide life-enhancing, residential and day-sailing activities for young people with special needs, disabilities, and those experiencing hardship and deprivation. We award disadvantaged young people the opportunity to not only widen their horizons but also develop their skills and capabilities through the joy and challenge of learning to sail.
Voyages range from youth residential sail training weeks for groups and individuals and day sailing for profoundly disabled young people, to a small number of commercial adult RYA courses and voyages.’
