Salary: Negotiable depending on experience, starting £22,000pa pro rata.
Details: The Cirdan Sailing Trust requires a mate to work aboard its fleet for the 2022 season
starting at the beginning of February through until early November. The Trust’s vessels will
undertake a refit period during the months of February and March before the sailing season starts
at the beginning of April. Working under the guidance of the Skipper, the successful candidate will
be expected to take a hands on role during this period.
The focus of the role is to support the Skipper with delivery of their Sail Training programme,
ensuring the safe operation of the vessel and to assist in boat maintenance.
The Trust, which has operated for over 35 years, provides young people, particularly those who
are disadvantaged in some way, with the opportunity to develop life skills through the challenge
and adventure of life at sea.
Requirements: Candidates should hold RYA Yachtmaster (Offshore or Ocean) with commercial
endorsement plus an ENG1 medical certificate. Power Boat Level 2 is also desirable.
Experience of large sailing vessels particularly traditional gaff rigged vessels is desirable.
The ideal candidate will have an empathy with the youth of today and ideally have experience of
working with young people as they will be expected to interact with trainees to instruct,
encourage and motivate.
As a small charity, the successful candidate will need to be a team player with a positive attitude.
